Obituary for Mary M. Bowers

KICKAPOO-Mary M. Bowers, 55, of Kickapoo, passed away at 5:45 a.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2011, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. She was born on February 14, 1956, in Peoria, to Harold “Casey” and Kathryn Bienemann Schmitt. She married Paul M. Bowers on June 7, 1975, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Peoria. He passed away on December 19, 2006, in Round Lake Beach, IL. She was also preceded in death by her mother. Mary is survived by her father, Casey Schmitt of Kickapoo; one daughter, Hannah Bowers of Peoria; one son, Dallas Bowers of Kickapoo; three brothers, Casey (Deb) Schmitt of Peoria, Bobby (Debby) Schmitt of Edwards and Mark (Darlis) Schmitt of Peoria; three sisters, Cecilia (David) Stickelmaier of Brimfield, Rebecca (Sebastian) Arrigo of Elmer, NJ and Nellie (Rusty) Burrell of Terre Haute, IN; and many nieces and nephews. She was a graduate of the Academy of Our Lady in 1974. Mary was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Kickapoo. She volunteered at St. Mary’s School of Kickapoo and was dearly loved by her students. She was a good wife, loving mother and faithful sister. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at St. Mary’s Church of Kickapoo with Rev. Patrick Riordan officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Monday at Wright & Salmon Mortuary and 30 minutes before the Mass at the church. Cremation rites will be accorded after the Mass. Private family graveside services for burial of ashes will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Kickapoo. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
