Obituary for Mary Jane Green
MaryJane (Lundstrom) Green, age 99, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2022, in Lakeland, Florida.
Jane was born in Peoria, Illinois on July 10, 1922 to Harry W. and Florence Reynolds Lundstrom. She married Leo Green on March 23, 1944, in Tallahassee, Florida, where Leo was on duty as an Army First Sergeant during WWII. He preceded her in death in January, 1994. Jane, as she was known to her friends and family, was a resident of the Estates at Carpenters in Lakeland, FL for the past 30 years. She was active in many activities and served a two-year term as a Resident Representative on the Board of Directors for the Estates. She also worked with their Marketing department to encourage new residents to become members of the Carpenters community. She achieved fame in that capacity on a short TV video clip with her daughter, Marsha, to promote the Continuing Care Retirement Community.
Before her retirement, in 1984, Jane was employed by Caterpillar, Inc, and worked in their Corporate Payroll department. In 1984, she and Leo moved to Winter Haven, FL and later to Lakeland. Both were members of the Greatest Generation and served their country, Leo as a WWII veteran, and Jane as a civilian employee at Camp Gordon Johnston in Carrabelle, FL. Through the years they maintained many long and treasured friendships with those they met during those years. Following the war, they returned to Peoria, IL to raise a family. While in Peoria, Jane and Leo were members of Madison Avenue Methodist Church and University Avenue Methodist Church. While in Winter Haven they were members of Seymer Methodist Church.
Jane is survived by one daughter, Marsha Hoffman (Jim) and one grandson, Douglas Hoffman of Salem, Oregon. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Leo, and two infant children, Richard and LeAnn.
Jane was laid to rest by Wright and Salmon Mortuary in Historic Springdale Cemetery next to her husband and two infant children. A celebration of life will be held at her gravesite on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at 1:00 PM, in honor of her 100th birthday.
For many years Jane made contributions to three children's charities, Florida Methodist Children's Home, Mercy Home, and Baptist Children's Home. Her contributions were "In honor of the three she did not get to raise." Donations may be made to a children's charity of your choice in her honor.
