Obituary for Mary Eugenia Macuk
PEORIA - Mary Eugenia Macuk (née Monckton), 94, of Peoria passed away at 3:30 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2016, at her daughter’s residence.
Mary was born on Feb. 3, 1922, in Mt. Sterling, Ill., to the late John and Bertha (Howard) Monckton. She married George Macuk on June 18, 1947, in Peoria. He preceded her in death in 1990.
They had four daughters, Mary Jane Duffy (who preceded her in death in 2010), Judy Norris of Peoria, Jean (Peter) Parkhurst of Dunlap, and Jackie Macuk of Washington, DC. Mary leaves behind six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers.
A member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Mary was also an avid reader despite long-term macular degeneration. She enjoyed working at The Book Emporium before her retirement in 1999. Her regular participation in various programs at The River Plex until recently, at 94, was an inspiration to many.
A funeral Mass will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at St. Bernard Catholic Church. Father Alexander Millar will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St Jude's Children's Research Hospital or Macular Degeneration Foundation, PO Box 531313, Henderson, Nev., 89053.
