Obituary for Mary D. Siebert

PEORIA-Mary D. Siebert, 80, of Peoria, died at 1:31 p.m. on Monday, August 11, 2008 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. She was born on June 30, 1928 in Johnstown, PA to Dr. Howard and Florence Pruner Dunegan. She married Edward W. Siebert on June 14, 1952 in Ebensburg, PA. He survives. She is also survived by two daughters, Mary Lou Siebert of Seattle, WA and Catherine Siebert Weisman (Jim Weisman) of Wayzata, MN; one grandchild, Amy; and one brother, Robert (Cynthia) Dunegan of Charlotte, NC. She was preceded in death by one son, Ned Siebert and one brother, Reverend Bertrand Dunegan. Mary was a graduate of Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, PA and Catholic University in Washington, DC. She was Librarian for Georgetown University College of Nursing, University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI and OSF College of Nursing, Peoria, IL. She developed school and parish libraries in Aurora, IL and St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Peoria Heights. She served as accompanist (piano) for various school, church, and civic performing arts organizations. She was a former member of the Peoria Symphony Guild, The Chicago Art Institute and a member of the Peoria Fine Arts Board of Directors. She was a member of the first Parish Council of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Peoria Heights. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas by Monsignor William Watson at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 14. Visitation will precede the Mass at the church, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Cremation rites will be accorded. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, Memorials for Masses can be sent to St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Peoria Heights or charitable contributions may be made to Peoria Public Library, attention Kris Holden, 107 NE Monroe St., Peoria, IL 61602. The family would like to sincerely thank the Nursing and Medical staffs of OSF St. Francis Medical Center and Lutheran Hillside Village, who provided compassionate care. Everyone who knew Mary loved her smile, beautiful spirit, amazing strength and courage, and relentless determination to live each day fully.
