Obituary for Mary Beth Morrissey
Mary Beth Morrissey, 83, of Peoria passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.

She was born on April 2, 1939, to the late William L. and M. Helen (Longman) O’Neill. She married Thomas P. Morrissey III on August 29, 1964, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tiskilwa, Illinois, and he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Jerry O’Neill and son-in-law, Rick Schuler. She is survived by one son, Thomas P. Morrissey IV, one daughter, Molly Morrissey Schuler and six grandchildren, Thomas P. Morrissey V, Ryan Morrissey, Kaitlin Schuler, Connor Schuler, Brendan Schuler, and Bridget Schuler.

Mary Beth was raised on a farm in Tiskilwa, Illinois and she graduated from Tiskilwa High School in 1957. She then moved to Peoria and took secretarial and bookkeeping classes. She loved her time living with friends at the “Y” and she enjoyed her employment in a variety of office settings. She was particularly fond of her time working at the Peoria County Courthouse and in the Jefferson Bank trust department.

After the birth of her children, Mary Beth was a homemaker who loved to cook, sew, and refinish furniture. She was quick to volunteer at her children’s activities and could often be found at daily Mass at St. Thomas Catholic Church, and later, St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. She treasured her day trips to Chicago with friends to shop or take in the theatre and she was a regular in the crowd at Corn Stock Theatre. One of her favorite activities was to tend to her extensive flower gardens and the results were breathtaking. She enjoyed many years as a member of the Peoria Garden Club.

Mary Beth loved to spend her free time at the family home in Northern Wisconsin, the family’s favorite meeting place. In the Northwoods, she would take long walks, bike ride, snowmobile with friends, cross country ski, go boating and spend countless hours with her family. She was a constant fixture at every activity and sporting event her grandchildren were involved in, and everyone’s friends knew “Nena.” She will be dearly missed.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday May 4, 2022, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Fr. Stephen Willard will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3rd, 2022, at Wright and Salmon Mortuary. Additional visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. prior to the funeral service at the church. She will be laid to rest at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Kickapoo.

Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Hillside Village Bethel Place Memory Unit or the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.
