Obituary for Mary Ann Happach
Mary Ann Happach, age 91, died peacefully on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at Christian Buehler Memorial Home in Peoria, IL.
Born in East St. Louis, IL. on September 28, 1926, she was a daughter to John F. “Babe” Winkelman and Leona (Henrich) Winkelman. She married Robert E. Happach, Sr. on September 7, 1946 at St. Bernard’s church in Peoria. He preceded her in death on May 23, 2006.
Survivors include daughter Gretchen (Joe) Polenzani of Wadsworth, IL., son Robert E. (Arlene) Happach, Jr. of Park Ridge, IL., and sister Barbara J Svymbersky of Peoria; Grandchildren Edward Polenzani of Grayslake IL, Elizabeth Polenzani of Fox Lake, IL., Shane (Daniela) Happach of London, UK., Jeremy Happach of San Antonio TX., and great-granddaughters Alexandra and Arya Happach of London, UK.
“Aunt Re” will be missed by her many loving nieces and nephews.
Mary Ann attended St. Bernard’s grade school and Woodruff High School and was a member of St. Bernard’s parish for 65 years. She spent her working life as an executive secretary and bookkeeper, retiring from Tinthoff Orthodontics in 1988. She preferred to spend her leisure time playing bridge and league golf. Mary Ann was a voracious reader and enjoyed crossword and Sudoku puzzles. She remains the family Scrabble champion.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A funeral mass and celebration of her life will be held at St. Philomena Catholic Church in Peoria at 10 AM on Saturday, August 18, 2018 with a visitation for one hour prior to the service. A private graveside service with burial of ashes will be held at at St. Mary’s Cemetery in West Peoria.
The Family would like to extend its appreciation to the Buehler staff for providing kind and loving care as well as for the friendly and dignified atmosphere they offer for their senior population.
