Obituary for Mary Ann Burkey

PEORIA - Mary Ann Burkey, 89, of Peoria passed away Wednesday, Mar. 11, 2015, at 12:15 p.m. at Christian Buehler Home. Born Dec. 8, 1925, in Peoria, she was a daughter to the late Robert and Evelyn Lyman Doran. On April 7, 1947, Mary Ann married Donald L. Burkey in Peoria. He preceded her in death. She worked as a secretary for the office of Dr. Thomas R. McMorrow for 19 years. Mary Ann was a member of St. Philomena Catholic Church and the American Business Women’s Association, where she was Business Woman of the year in 1978. Mary Ann volunteered at Gailey Eye Clinic in Peoria and will be remembered for her love of cross-stitching, attending daily mass, and spending time with her family. Survivors include her son, Harry (Linda) Burkey of Morton, Ill.; three grandchildren, Michelle (Brian) Dennison, Chris Burkey, and Brian (Courtney) Burkey; three great-grandchildren, Brett, Lauren, and Carter; and three brothers, Bob Doran of East Peoria, Jerry (Marilyn) Doran of Peoria, and Denny (Cheryl) Doran of Peoria. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one son, Larry Burkey in 1978. Visitation will be held on Tuesday March 17, 2015, from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Philomena Catholic Church. Father David Richardson will officiate, and burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Kickapoo. Memorials in Mary Ann’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. The family would like to thank the entire staff of Buehler Home for the continual care and support.
