Obituary for Mary Ann O'Russa

Peoria- Mary Ann O’Russa, age 74, passed away after a sudden illness and entered her new life in heaven at 6:52 AM, Monday, May 14, 2018 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL. Her loving family was by her side.

Mary was born March 9, 1944 in Peoria, a daughter of Roland and Inez (Lindee) Scott. On February 1, 1964 she happily married Richard O’Russa in Peoria at the Cathedral of Saint Mary of Immaculate Conception. Mary graduated from Woodruff High School and Illinois Central College with an Applied Associates Degree in Occupational Therapy. She worked for OSF St. Francis Medical Center as an Occupational Therapist until her retirement in 2009. After her retirement, Mary remained a very active member of the OSF family as a volunteer including a member of the Senior Saints, as a Eucharistic minister, and volunteering where needed.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her precious and beloved grandson Benjamin, and her nephew David.

She is survived by her husband Richard of Peoria; four children: Richard (Marcella Durand) O’Russa of New York City, NY, Michael (Melissa) O’Russa of Madison, WI, John (Brenda) O’Russa of Peoria, and Ann (Brandon) Bond of Peoria; eight grandchildren: Grace, Kam, Jacob, Megan, Katie, Ian, Ismael, and Juliet; one sister Barbara (Reid) Larson and one brother Ron Scott.

She loved to travel, and visited Europe, Africa, Asia as well as the Caribbean, Central and South America and especially enjoyed spending time at her vacation home in the Lake of the Ozarks. She was a true music lover, from playing the saxophone in her youth to sharing her love of rock-n-roll and jazz with her beloved grandchildren. She loved spending time with her many groups of friends including TOPS, Mandaladies, and friends at the YMCA. She also loved gardening.

Mary was a very compassionate and charitable person. She was always there for those who needed her and donated countless hours helping others.

She loved her family dearly and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2018 between the hours of 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM at the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Peoria. Recitation of the Rosary will take place at 6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 10:00 AM at the Cathedral with visitation being held one hour prior to mass. Fr. James Pankiewicz will officiate with entombment following at Resurrection Mausoleum.

Donations may be made to the Peoria Public Schools Foundation in memory of Mary.
