Obituary for Martin Hoopingarner
MINIER, Ill. – Martin F. “Shorty” Hoopingarner, 91, of Minier, Ill., passed away at 7:22 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at Timber Creek Rehabilitation & Health, Pekin.
Martin was born on Jan. 25, 1925, in Clay City, Ind., to the late Golden and Violet (McKee) Hoopingarner. He was married to Martha Pine for 49 years. She preceded him in death on Jan. 21, 1995. He later married Klara Blew on Oct. 7, 1995, in Peoria. She preceded him in death.
He was also preceded in death by one child, four brothers, and one sister.
He is survived by his daughter, Christi (Larry) Brooks of Minier, Ill.; stepdaughter, Judith (Kaye) Crawford of Pekin; one sister, Joan Kolb of Sunnyland; and several nieces and nephews.
Martin was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a machine operator for Caterpillar, retiring in 1977.
He was a member of Southside Baptist Church, the Peoria Sportsman’s Club and VFW Post 8662, where he was a life member.
Martin loved hunting and fishing and enjoyed working with his hands. He never met a stranger.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2016, at Wright & Salmon Mortuary.
Pastor Jack Thompson. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday prior to the service. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens.
