Obituary for Martin Emmett Kenny

Peoria- Martin Emmett Kenny, age 88 and a lifelong resident of Peoria, passed away at 2:45 AM on February 9, 2022 at Apostolic Christian Skylines.

Born November 4, 1933 in Peoria, a son to John C. and Ann E. (Sheridan) Kenny. Martin attended St. Patrick Grade School and was a member of the Spalding Institute Class of 1951. He honorably served eight years in the United States Army. In 1960 Martin married Betty Jean Vaughan in Peoria and together they cherished 61 years. Martin worked as a salesman for Quality House for the majority of his life until his retirement. He enjoyed bowling with the Knights of Columbus league in his earlier years and was a devout catholic and parishioner of St. Mark Catholic Church, having served on multiple ministries for decades. Martin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother who was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife Betty of Peoria; two daughters: Marie (Dan) Powers of Cary, IL and Rita (Greg) Dietz of Naperville, IL; four grandchildren: Elizabeth and Thomas Powers, Megan and Lauren Dietz; one sister Nancy Norton of Decatur, IL; one sister-in-law Lorraine Kenny of Peoria; and several nieces and nephews.

Martin was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers: Jack, Jim, Tom, Jerry, Jerome and Frank Kenny; one sister Mary Errion Bailey.

The family would like to thank Apostolic Christian Skylines, OSF Hospice and Dr. John Shallat for their care.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Visitation will take place on Saturday, February 19, 2022 from 1:00 PM until time of Memorial Services at 2:00 PM at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. Msgr. Brian Brownsey will officiate. Family requests that masks be worn and COVID procedures be followed.

In lieu of flowers memorials in Martin’s memory may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
