Obituary for Marta Vonachen Templin

Peoria- Marta Vonachen Templin, 75, of Peoria, passed away at 2:15 PM on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at the Lutheran Hillside Village. She was born on January 8, 1937 in Peoria to Dr. Harold A. and Bernice (Verner) Vonachen the youngest of seven children. She is survived by her husband, Bernard. They were married on Nov. 28, 1964, and celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary last fall. Also surviving are three children, Theresa (Jim) Angell and David Templin of Peoria, and Daniel (Kristal) Templin of Sycamore, IL, and six grandchildren, Ashley and Megan Angell, Noah, Hannah, Erin and Luke Templin. Other survivors include her two brothers, Harold A. “Pete” Vonachen of Peoria, Tom (Janice) Vonachen of Delevan, and one sister, Susie (Jim) Dawson of Decatur. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Jack Vonachen, and two sisters, Mary Ann Farrell and Barbara “Bobbie” Hecht. Marta attended Marycrest College in Davenport, Iowa. She left there to work for her brother Pete when he opened Vonachen’s Junction in Peoria. She worked at Lagron-Miller as a book buyer for 12 years. Many people sought her out for her knowledge of religious books or just to socialize. She was a great friend to many people, including many priests. Marta was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic minister and member of the RCIA team. She was active with the Peoria Cursillo movement, having served as the Lay Director in the early 1990’s for five years, during the time Spalding Institute was being renovated for use by Cursillo. She made her Cursillo in 1972 and was on many teams since then. She was also involved in the formation of the Walk to Emmaus, a Methodist version of Cursillo. Marta’s life was one of generosity and helping others. She was deeply loved by her family and her many friends. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, January 31 at Holy Family Church. Msgr. Charles J. Beebe and Fr. John P. Grigus O.F.M. will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday, at Wright & Salmon Mortuary with further visitation one hour prior to the Mass at church on Tuesday. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum . In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Family Church, 3720 N. Sterling Ave., Peoria, IL 61615 or to Cursillo, Peoria Diocesan, 401 N.E. Madison Ave., Peoria, IL 61603.
