Obituary for Marlene M. Jones

EAST PEORIA - Marlene M. (Schoch) Jones, 79, of Wheaton, formerly of East Peoria, passed away at 5:55 a.m. Thursday Mar. 12, 2015, at the DuPage Convalescent Center. Born Sept. 14, 1935, in Peoria, she was a daughter to the late John D. and Minnie Gilbert Schoch. On Sept. 23, 1956, Marlene married Henry E. Jones in Peoria. He preceded her in death. She was a member of Grace Mennonite Bible Church in Morton and the Caterpillar Retirees Club. Being a homemaker the majority of her life, Marlene enjoyed the simple things of life. She never knew a stranger, and cherished the moments she got to spend with her family. Marlene loved sitting outside watching the neighborhood, and could be found socializing and getting to know all the neighbors. She will be remembered for her love of cross-stitching, reading biblical and history books, and for her love of traveling out west with her husband and family. Survivors include two children, Debbie (Matthew) Wilcoxen of Carol Stream, Ill., and David (Lorinda) Jones of Louisville, Colo.; five grandchildren; and one sister, Joan Chard of Morton, Ill. Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, and one sister. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday Mar. 17, 2015, at Grace Church, 1325 East Jefferson Street, Morton, Ill. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Tim Bertsche will officiate, and burial will follow in Oak Grove Bible Church Cemetery in East Peoria. Memorials may be made in Marlene’s memory to the Southside Mission, the Peoria Rescue Mission, or Samaritan’s Purse.
