Obituary for Mark Donald Heuer

Mark Donald Heuer, 75, passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2022 surrounded by loving family in Des Moines, Iowa.

Mark was born on March 10, 1947, to the late Arnold and Elizabeth Heuer. Mark grew up with his brother Thomas on the beloved family farm in rural Peoria County and was a lifelong resident of the Peoria area. He married Mary Knickerbocker on April 28, 1973.

Mark thoroughly enjoyed his career as a Heating and Cooling design engineer, sales, and serviceperson while serving the Peoria area for nearly 50 years, retiring in 2019.

Mark attended Christ Lutheran Grade School, Limestone Community High School and received a degree in Industrial Engineering at Western Illinois University. Mark grew in his faith at Christ Lutheran Church and was charter member of Holy Cross Lutheran church near Bartonville – serving as a long-time elder and member of the choir. Mark was an integral part of the design and build process of the Holy Cross sanctuary addition which was dedicated in 1979. In later years, Mark became a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Mark was a dedicated family man and would do whatever it took to provide for his family and make his wife happy. Family vacations, playing at the farm, and following the boys’ activities in school and college were his hobbies. Mark was especially proud of his sons’ musical talents, singing in choirs and playing the tuba in college bands and beyond. In recent years, he enjoyed his role of grandpa and visiting with his grandchildren as much as he could.

Mark is survived by his wife Mary; sons Chad (Gloria) of Indianola, Iowa and Tyler (Katie) of Naperville, and grandchildren Lexi, Caleb, and Molly. Mark is also survived by his brother Thomas (Gail) of Carbondale, Colorado and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family would also like to give special thanks and recognition to the medical community in Des Moines, Iowa who provided exceptional care and compassion to Mark and his family over the past year.

A visitation will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Thursday, November 17, 2022 from 5-7pm. A visitation will also be held from 10:30-11:30am Friday, November 18, 2022 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, with funeral services following at 11:30 am. Rev. Chip Winter will officiate. The funeral service will be live-streamed on Redeemer Lutheran Church website (Redeemerlutheran.com). Burial rite will follow at Lutheran Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mark’s honor to the Limestone Community High School Band and Choral departments c/o Limestone Community High School 4201 S. Airport Road Bartonville IL, 61607 or by contacting the school at 309-697-6271.
