Obituary for Marion Sprenger
PEORIA - Marion Stein Sprenger, 95, of Peoria passed away peacefully at 7:38 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016, at the OSF Richard Owens Hospice Home in Peoria with her family by her side.
Born Feb. 23, 1921, to the late Ezra and Jesse Stein Bucher, Marion was raised by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry W. Stein. She married Joseph E. Sprenger on June 25, 1943. He passed away August 12, 2001.
She was also preceded in death by one granddaughter, Amanda Sprenger Sarmiento.
She is survived by two sons, Stephen (Kettie) and Scott (Marilee); four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Marion graduated from Peoria High School in 1938 and attended Bradley University, graduating in 1942. She was a member of Lambda Phi Sorority.
She served as president of the Junior League of Peoria and the Board of Community Children’s Theater. She was a member of the Central Volunteer Bureau, a charter member of Easter Seals Auxiliary, and a board member of the Crittenton Care and Counseling Center and Family House. She was also a member of the Living Waters Lutheran Church and the Country Club of Peoria.
Marion was a volunteer for the Methodist Hospital Service League, Meals on Wheels, and Family House. She was also a mentor/reader at Glen Oak School.
For 12 years, she was employed as fashion coordinator for Bergner's and was the leader for many years of the Seventeen Beauty Workshop.
Family and friends will celebrate her life with a funeral service at 12 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Living Waters Lutheran church. Pastor Mark Schoenhals will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Cremation rites have been accorded and entombment of ashes will be in Resurrection Mausoleum. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
