Obituary for Marianne Dempsey

PEORIA Marianne Baer ODonnell Dempsey, 84, of Peoria passed away at 10:13 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at UnityPoint Health Proctor.
Marianne was born on July 28, 1930, in Peoria to the late Cecil and Florence (Roach) Baer. She married John ODonnell on June 2, 1951, at St. Boniface Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on June 28, 1969.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, Mark ODonnell and Jerome ODonnell; one grandson, Michael ODonnell; and one brother, Edward Baer.
She is survived by five children, Kathleen (Mike) Brown of Fairfield, Iowa, Karen (Mick) Kenny of Peoria, Jack ODonnell of Maryland, Kris (Steve) Rector of Metamora, Jude ODonnell of Chillicothe; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sr. Cecile Baer O.S.B. of Rock Island, Ill., and Gloria Christian of Peoria; one brother, Michael (Helen) Baer of East Peoria; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marianne attended St. Marys Academy in Nauvoo, Ill. She worked for Caterpillar, retiring after 25 years.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a past member of St. Thomas Catholic Church. She was also a member of St. Marys Academy Alumni, Catholic Womens League, and the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. She was involved in the St. Thomas Womens Guild, volunteered at many other organizations, and was a Gift of Hope organ/tissue donor.
Marianne was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2015, at St. Thomas Catholic Church. Father Thomas Taylor will officiate. Visitation will be two hours prior to the Mass at the church. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial of ashes will be in Resurrection Cemetery at a later date. Wright Salmon Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
