Obituaries
Marian L. Brown passed away at age 90 on Thursday, September 16, 2021 in Peoria, IL after an extended battle with dementia in the care of the special team at Grandview Alzheimer’s Center.
Born on March 9, 1931 to Ralph Emerson Lamb and Catherine Lucille Lamb, Marian was a near lifelong Illinois resident, with a short period of residency in Kansas. She graduated High School from the Academy of Our Lady in Peoria. Primarily a Homemaker, Marian lived her adult life in Peoria and Moline, Illinois, where she worked for a period of time as a real estate agent.
“Devoted,” which is an understatement, to her strong religious beliefs and family, Marian lived a full life. She was a caring and loving wife of over 40 years to her husband, Robert “Les” Brown, who predeceased her in 2020. She cared deeply for her children and other family members. Trips to California and Las Vegas for the Holidays to visit her children and grandchildren with Les were always a special time. Family get togethers at Sammy’s Woodfire Pizza in Las Vegas at a table seemingly the size of an aircraft carrier with family were always a smash hit topped off with the gigantic “Messy Sundae” that Mom would never refuse.
Marian participated in numerous ministries in the Catholic Church, which are almost too numerous to mention, including but not limited to serving on Cursillo teams, Watch teams, Teens Encounter Christ teams, prison ministry teams, serving as a song leader, Eucharistic Minister and in many other ways. She was also an active member of the Junior League in the Quad Cities.
Marian survived the passing of her husband Les, and the passing of her young daughters Laurie, Cynthia and Linda. She is survived by daughter Ann Dean (son-in-law Steve Dean, deceased) of California; son Andrew Varga of Nevada; and son and daughter-in-law James and Christine Whitmire of Nevada; stepson and daughter-in-law, David and Barb Brown of Texas; stepson Michael Brown of Washington; and ten grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be at Holy Family Catholic Church on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 10:00 AM with a one- hour visitation prior at 9:00 a.m. Fr. Paul Langevin will officiate. Following Mass, burial will occur at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in West Peoria. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Marian’s life.
