Obituary for Margaret "Peggy" McConnell
Margaret Mary “Peggy” McConnell, 87, formerly of Peoria, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2022 at her son’s home in Bloomington, IL.
Peggy was born December 14, 1934 in Peoria, IL, a daughter of Dr. Harry J. and Irene (Graham) Ireland. She married Jerry McConnell on August 6, 1955 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Peoria. He preceded her in death on March 19, 1985.
Peggy is survived by their children, Cathy McConnell of St. Louis, MO, Mike (Robin) McConnell of Low Point, IL and Kevin (Jane) McConnell of Bloomington, IL and three grandchildren, Ryan McConnell, Matthew McConnell and Meghan McConnell, three step-grandchildren Jennifer Zoelzer, Suzi (Josh) Gasparini and Eric (Cassie) Asafailo and seven step-greatgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandchild, Kelley McConnell and one sister, Patricia Jamison.
Peggy graduated from the Academy of Our Lady and went on to attend Northwestern University.
She was an apprentice pharmacist at the Medicine Shop and North Street Pharmacy. She was a former member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and participated in the St. Thomas Rosary for Peace. She was an Emeritus member of the South-West Peoria Kiwanis, member of the Red Hat Society, a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority and past treasurer of Panhellenic.
Visitation for Peggy will be from 5-7 PM on Friday, June 10, 2022 at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Recitation of the Rosary at 7 PM. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM also at the Church, on Saturday, June 11, 2022, with a half hour prior visitation. Msgr. Gerald Ward will officiate and burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in West Peoria, IL.
