Obituary for Marcus A. Sierra
Marcus Sierra, age 25, of Peoria, passed away on Saturday, October, 22, 2022 at his residence in York, PA.
Born December 17, 1996, and raised in Peoria, IL he was son to Angela Sierra and Lamel Sands. After graduating from Manual High School, he matriculated at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, to much fanfare from his friends and family, and became a first-generation graduate.
An avid sports enthusiast, Marcus enjoyed success in multiple programs throughout high school and continued to remain an active individual throughout his life.
During his undergraduate career, Marcus became a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and was known to his brothers as Anchor Lionheart, a name which embodied his zeal for life as well as his steadfast sense of duty and loyalty.
Marcus became a father on September 23, 2022 to Isaias Amel Sierra in thanks to his significant other, Jennifer Mejia.
In addition, Marcus is survived by his grandmother Barbara Sierra; mother Angela Sierra; father Lamel (Celeste) Sands; brothers Christopher, Anthony, and Alexander Sierra, Lamel and De’Mon Middleton; uncles Greg and Mark Sierra, Jeremy DeVault, and Joseph Sands; aunt Tammie Sands; cousins Alicia Sierra and Aaliyah Anderson; godparents Steven and Patricia Schmidt; two nieces; six nephews; as well as a host of adoptive aunts and uncles.
He is preceded in death by his grandfathers, Savino Sierra and Melvin Sands.
Visitation will be from 5:30 PM – 8:00 PM on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. A Funeral Mass will be at 11:30 AM on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at St. Ann Catholic Church, with a one hour prior visitation. Fr. Angel Sierra will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in West Peoria.
