Obituary for Lucy A. Widhalm

PEORIA-Lucy A. Widhalm, 92, of Independence Village of Peoria and a longtime resident of Belvidere, passed away at 5:10 p.m. on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. She was born on May 2, 1917 in Glassboro, NJ to Percy and Hilda Rule Maden. She married Joseph Widhalm on November 27, 1943 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Temple, TX. He passed away on May 7, 1998. She was also preceded in death by three brothers: Charles, Albert, and Reginald Maden. Surviving are her four children, Joseph (Marguerite) Widhalm of Colorado Springs, CO, Albert (Margaret) Widhalm of Chebanse, IL, Hilda (Richard) Furkert of Peoria and Paul (Laura) Widhalm of Batavia, IL; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Lucy graduated as a registered nurse in 1941 from the Protestant Episcopal Hospital in Philadelphia. She was an RN at St. Joseph Hospital in Belvidere where she worked for 17 years and retired in 1978. She served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corp. for 1 ½ years from 1943-1944 and was stationed at McCloskey General Hospital. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and a longtime member of St. James Church in Belvidere. She served as Grand Regent of the Catholic Daughters of America of St. James Parish. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 30, 2010 at St. James Church in Belvidere with interment of ashes in St. James Cemetery. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of local arrangements, and Belvidere Funeral Home is in charge of the interment.
