Obituary for Louise N. Stepan

Peoria- Louise N. Stepan, age 93, of Peoria, passed away peacefully at 7:33 PM on Friday, December 21, 2018 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home surrounded by her family.

Born December 29, 1925 in Scotland, IL she was a daughter to Edgar and Sarah (Ayers) Foster. On September 26, 1946 she married Arthur J. Stepan in Chicago. He preceded her in death on October 3, 1984. Louise worked as a cook for over 53 years in the Chicago area. She was an avid and lifetime quilter who donated them every year to the St. Mary’s sausage supper. Louise was also a master seamstress having made many wedding gowns over the years. She loved needlepoint, crocheting, painting, ceramics and most importantly two of her greatest enjoyments was baking and gardening, both floral and vegetables. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who loved spending time with her family and will be deeply missed.

Survivors include two daughters: Barbara Matzelle of Brimfield and Shirley Tenney of Lake Village, IN; seven grandchildren: Daryl, Scott, Thomas and Rick Matzelle, William Prestero, Michelle Jenkins and George Tenney; 14 great-grandchildren: Olivia, Lia, Atticus, Nora, Max, Roman, Philomena, Dominic, Augustine, Halley, Christina, Anthony, Bianca and Jonathon; two sisters:, Evelyn Chinn of Lafayette, IN and Karen Smith of Grant Vill, Penn; one brother Gordon Foster of Attica, IN.; and two half sisters: Sandy James Houston and Suzie Bushell.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother Edward Foster and two sisters: Rosella Conte and Betty Gayler.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018 between the hours of 5:00 PM till 7:00 Pm at Wright & Salmon Mortuary with recitation of the rosary at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church in Kickapoo with an additional visitation being held 30 minutes prior to mass. Father Joseph Dondanville will officiate and burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery in Kickapoo.

Memorials in Louise’s memory may be made as Masses.
