Obituary for Louis P. Kouri

Louis P. Kouri, 93, passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at his residence in East Peoria, surrounded by his loving family.

Louis was born in Peoria, Illinois on August 2, 1927 to Thomas Fadoul & Marianna (Mrad) Kouri. He was the fifth of nine children of which five sisters (Bernadine, Margaret, Elizabeth, Gladys, Jeanette) and one brother (Bernard) proceeded him in death, along with his parents.
He met the love of his life, Delores “Dee” Anthony, and they were married on June 29, 1955 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She survives. They have five sons all surviving: Dr. Tom (Rosie), Steve (Angie), Dan (Pam), Ken (Gina), Jim (Gina), fifteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren, as well as two brothers, Ed and Gene (Cathy) Kouri.

Louis graduated from Saint Patrick’s Grade School and Manual High School. He worked at Couri Brothers Supermarket and owned and operated the Lariat Steakhouse for fifty years. He was involved in many business endeavors, including Kouri’s Pubs and Sonic Drive Ins in the surrounding areas. He retired 25 years ago and never missed a day of work thereafter!

Louis was a proud Veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a devout Catholic, devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He never knew a stranger, was a quiet leader, a humble man and loved his family, of which he was very proud.

He was very active in the Itoo Society, starting the Itoo Shish Ka Bob in 1968. He received many awards, including Man of the Year of the Itoo Society, Lifetime Achievement Award of the Hospitality Association, and was a lifetime member of the American Legion and VFW. He was also a past board member of the Bradley Braves Club and Peoria Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The family wants to especially thank the nurses and staff of Traditions Hospice for the love and care they showed to Louis and the family. Also thanks to Luke for his love, care and compassion.

Visitation will be from 4 PM – 7 PM, on Monday, January 4, 2021 at St. Sharbel Catholic Church, with a recitation of the Rosary beginning at 7 PM. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January, 5, 2021 at the church, with further visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Chorbishop Elia Faouzi and Fr.
