Obituary for Louis M. Landon
Peoria-Louis Milton “Lou” Landon passed away peacefully in Peoria, Illinois on April 13, 2017 at the age of 87 with his wife, Joanne by his side.

Lou was born in Danville, Illinois on August 22, 1929 to Arch Clyde and Myrtle Deliha (Moody) Landon. He attended Danville High School where he wrestled and played football. At Bradley University, he was a proud member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and it was there that he met (in Geology Class) the love of his life, Kathleen Joanne “Joanne” Myatt, another Bradley student and a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. He often joked that they met “under a rock”.

He completed his studies at Bradley University with a degree in Business Administration. He served our country in the Army from 1950-1953 during the Korean War receiving 2 Bronze Stars and a United Nations Service Medal for his service. He came back to Peoria and married Joanne in October 1953 at St Philomena’s Catholic Church. He treasured his experience at St. Philomena, Holy Family Church, and the Cursillo.

He worked alongside his father-in-law, Russell Myatt, at Calihan & Co, eventually taking over as President and running Calihan for 50 years, which his son, Tom now owns. Lou often said Calihan was like one of his children. He not only provided for his immediate family; but also the larger Calihan community anchored at the Foot of South Street. He was an active member in the Chicago Midwest Meat Association and was considered one the leaders in the meat industry.

Lou had an active sense of humor, exemplifying his lust for life. He enjoyed duck, pheasant and quail hunting and was a member of the Mallard Farms Duck Hunting Club in Spring Bay. In the summertime he looked forward to many fishing trips with family and friends to Canada and Alaska and played golf in between those trips. He was a long-time member of Mt Hawley Country Club where he served on the Board of Governors. Lou and Joanne loved to travel internationally and domestically. They lived part time in their Ft Myers Beach condo for many years, escaping the Midwest winters while enjoying sunsets and hosting parties for their new-found friends. Their love and respect for each other was palpable and together they created a meaningful life around their 4 children: Kathleen, Jim, John and Tom.

Lou is preceded in death by his parents, Arch and Myrtle and his half-sister, Irene Eller.

He is survived by his wife and his four children, 12 grandchildren, and 1 great- grandson.
Kathleen (James ) Pankanin of Bellevue, WA and their sons Sean, Kevin, Jacob and Joshua Pankanin; Dr. James Landon (Tammy Hauk) of Colgate, WI and their daughter Haley Landon; John Landon (Eleanor Doonan) of Plano, TX and their children, Katie (Glovitz), Carly, Madeleine, and John Russell, Jr. “Rusty” and great- grandson Adam Michael Glovitz, Jr. “Mikey”; Thomas Landon (Lilie Lundberg) of Dunlap, IL their children Victoria, Anastasia, and Louis.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 between the hours of 5:00 PM till 8:00 PM at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 10:30 AM at St. Philomena Catholic Church with an additional visitation 30 minutes prior to mass. Father David Richardson will officiate and entombment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials in Lou’s memory may be made to the Peoria Cursillo Center or the Neighborhood House in Peoria.
