Obituary for Lorraine E. Zwicky

Peoria- Lorraine E. Zwicky, 83, of Bickford Cottage in Peoria, died on Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at 7:55 p.m. at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. Born August 15, 1927, in Racine, Wisc., to George and Irene McNamara Spring, she married Dr. George F. Zwicky Jr., June 16, 1951, in Batavia, Ill., He died March 3, 2003 in Peoria. One daughter, Judy Weinstein, one grandson, Robert, one brother, Franklin, and one sister, Lucille Druecker also preceded her in death. Surviving are four sons, David (Dianne) Zwicky of San Francisco, Gary (Camie) Zwicky of Dunlap, Thomas Zwicky of Peoria, and Alan Zwicky of Dunlap; one brother, Donald (Evelyn) Spring of St. Paul, MN; one sister, Ruth Sorensen of Batavia; eight grandchildren, Lauren Zwicky, Cynthia Zwicky, Erin Weinstein, Steven Weinstein, Garrett Zwicky, Brent Zwicky, Shannon Zwicky, and Lexi Zwicky. Lorraine received her bachelor of science degree from Mount Mary College in Wauwautosa, WI, and worked as a Med-Tech for several years after graduation. She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, and was very active in Bowl-Mor and Mt. Hawley Bowling Leagues. She played bridge, and played in the 9-hole golf league at Mt.Hawley Country Club. She was a volunteer for the OSF Women’s Auxiliary, and spent many hours working in the gift shop. A Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, 9:30 a.m. at Resurrection Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Patrick Henehan officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the mass at the Mausoleum Chapel. Cremation rites will be accorded. Private inurnment of ashes will be in Resurrection Mausoleum at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Children’s Hospital of Illinois.
