Obituary for Loretta F. Grob
Loretta F. Grob, 92, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her children on Friday, November 23, 2018.
Loretta was born on September 26, 1926 to Leslie and Gertrude Gauwitz.
She was a Woodruff High School graduate. During WWII, Loretta worked for the US Government War Department at the Pentagon building in Washington DC then, upon returning home, worked at Byerly Aviation where she also attained her Private Pilot License.
On December 18, 1948, she married Emil Grob and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary together before Emil’s death on January 21, 2009. Loretta and Emil moved frequently with his job at Caterpillar, including spending 8 years in Geneva, Switzerland.
She is survived by her five children: Carol (Marc) Zavadil, Steve (Niki) Grob, Cathy (Dennis) Frey, Marian Scopa and Matt (Dawn) Grob and 6 grandchildren.
Loretta was a long-time member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church where she participated in the Tuesday Morning Prayer Group and was also a facilitator for “Rainbows for All God’s Children”. For many years, Loretta would sew a wardrobe for a Madame Alexander doll and donate it to the St Vincent de Paul School’s Christmas bazaar. She authored a book, “When Rich and I Were Young” telling of her childhood experiences while growing up on their farm on Galena Road.
Visitation from 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM will be on Wednesday, Nov 28, 2018 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM and then a brief service and entombment at the Resurrection Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, Loretta requested donations be made to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6001 N. University St., Peoria.
