Obituary for Loretta A. Hornbacker
PEORIA – Loretta A. Hornbacker, 95, of Peoria passed away at 10:20 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at her residence.
Loretta was born on Aug. 11, 1920, in Dunlap to the late William E. and Eva (Doyle) Colgan. She married Douglas Winters. He passed away in 1998. She later married Gerald Hornbacker on Aug. 20, 1971. He preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 1992.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Francis and John Colgan; two sisters, Ada Marie Knoke and Bette J. Mintz; and one step-daughter, Eleanor Hornbacker.
She is survived by one daughter, Theresa Winters of Healdsburg, Calif.; three sons, Michael Winters of Canyon Lake, Tex., Patrick Winters of Maylene, Ala., and Anthony Winters of Arvada, Colo.; one stepson, Jerry Hornbacker of Peoria; one stepdaughter Shiela Wilson of Norris, Ill., 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Loretta was a 1939 graduate of Dunlap High School. She worked as a secretary for CILCO for 18 years, retiring in 1980.
She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and its Mary and Martha Society and Quilters of Holy Family. She was also a member of the American Association of Retired People, St. Patrick Society, YWCA, Catholic Women’s League, CILCO Retirees, and the RiverPlex. She was a former member of Professional Secretaries International and volunteer at Komen Breast Center.
A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Holy Family Catholic Church. Franciscan Friars will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be in St. Clements Cemetery in Dunlap. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
