Obituary for Lester E. Veatch
PEORIA Lester E. Veatch, 85, of Peoria passed away at 6:56 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2015, at UnityPoint Health Methodist.
Lester was born on June 1, 1930, in Peoria to the late Lester and Edith (Bidleman) Veatch. He married Barbara L. Nullmeyer on Aug. 19, 1951, in Peoria. She survives.
He is also survived by one daughter, Debbie (Terry) Gathman of Topeka, Ill.; one son, Kevin (Jackie) Veatch of Peoria; five grandchildren, Nicholas (Audra) Greiner, Corey Veatch, Jamie Veatch, Heather (Aaron) Flynn, Kodie Veatch, and Amber (Josh) Bateman; eight great-grandchildren, Blake, Kayleigh, Arianna, Jake, Devin, Aaliyah, Arya, and Nevaeh; two sisters, Dorothy Tuckosh of Everett, Wash., and Mary Jane Juteau of San Diego; two brothers, Richard Veatch of East Peoria and Robert (Gwen) Veatch of Las Vegas; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Veatch.
Lester was an Army veteran, serving during the Korean War and attaining the rank of sergeant. He was part owner of Veatchs Peoria Office Machines with his brother Paul. He also worked construction, at Caterpillar, and was a bus driver for Peoria District 150.
His family and friends will miss him not only for the love he gave them but for the support he offered to them throughout his life.
A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2015, at Wright Salmon Mortuary. Pastor Gary Weaver will officiate. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. prior to the service at the mortuary. Cremation rites have been accorded any burial of ashes will be at a later date.
