Obituary for Leone E. McCaslin

PEORIA – Leone E. McCaslin, 96, of Peoria passed away at 3:07 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016, at Grand View Alzheimer’s Special Care Center.

Leone was born on Dec. 25, 1919 in Chippewa Falls, Wisc., to the late Henry and Georgene Toutant. She married Lawrence LeTourneau on Nov. 30, 1940, in Chippewa Falls, Wisc. He preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 1969, shattering her life and leaving her a widow at 49. She later married Max McCaslin on Sept. 1, 1973, and together they lived life to the fullest until his death on Aug. 15, 2005.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers and her son, Larry LeTourneau, in 2013.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Kay (Hylee) Kemp and Susan (Al) Ziegler both of Peoria; nine grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

Leone and Max enjoyed traveling and spent many retirement years in Florida among friends. In 1999, they returned to Peoria to be surrounded by their family. Again, they made many friends and became involved in their community.

She loved being with people and led a very active life. She enjoyed her years as a Pink Lady, doing volunteer work at Proctor Hospital. She also enjoyed her many years of involvement in Catholic church organizations wherever she lived.

Leone was in countless bridge groups throughout her life and loved the mental stimulation it gave her, as well as, friendships. She was a talented seamstress and a voracious reader. She also loved cooking, gardening, and dancing.

Above all, she was a wonderful mother and grandmother with so much style and class. The family will forever cherish her memory, especially on her birthday and Christmas Day.
The family would like to thank all of the caring people at Grand View Alzheimer’s Special Care Center and the Harbor Lights Hospice team, who lovingly cared for her.

A private memorial Mass will be today at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Cremation rites have been accorded and burial of ashes will be in Resurrection Cemetery at a later date. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is handling the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Jude.
