Obituary for Leo "Buck" Watkins

PEORIA HEIGHTS – Leo W. “Buck” Watkins died on July 24, 2012 at the age of 86 at Rosewood Care Center. He was born September 9, 1925 in New Berlin, IL to Walter and Iona (Woodward) Watkins. He married Sharon K. Lee on May 15, 1954. She preceded him in death on November 4, 2002. Leo was also preceded in death by his parents, sister Goldie Goff, and three brothers Arthur, Walter and Gilbert. He is survived by his daughter Judy (Kevin) Kirkling of Clay City, Indiana; two sons Steve of Peoria and Greg of Indianapolis, IN; sister Ruth Kilby of Virginia, IL; and two grandchildren Kelly and Walt Kirkling. Leo was a World War II Veteran of the Navy Seabees, serving in the 31st SP Battalion on Saipan. After the war, he attended Bradley University. He worked for a division of Pabst Brewing Company, PMP Fermentation Products, as a supervisor for 41 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of Methodist Church, Navy Club Ship 34, Amvets Post 64, the American Legion, Pabst Quarter Century Club, Five Gallon Blood and Pheresis donor for the Red Cross Leo enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Rockaway Beach, MO., spending time with his family and traveling throughout the United States. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 27, 2012 at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. prior to the service also at Wright & Salmon. Burial will be in Swan Lake Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to the Blind Center in Peoria. Tributes and condolences may be submitted to
