Obituaries
Len A. Kuchan, 89, of Peoria, died on Friday, December 25, 2020 in the comfort of his home at Buehler Retirement Center. Born September 15, 1931, in Canton, Illinois to Anthony and Loraine Walker Kuchan, he married Mary C. (Maureen) Myers 65 years ago on September 3, 1955 in St. Louis, Missouri. She survives him as do their 5 children, Elizabeth Kuchan of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Matthew (Sandra) of Columbus, Ohio, Andrew (Kimberly) of St. Louis, Missouri, Thomas (Jacie) of Chicago, Illinois, and Joseph (Sarah) of Stuttgart, Germany, fourteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one brother, David of Canton, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Anthony of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and James of Canton, Illinois.
A Caterpillar, Inc. employee for forty years, he retired in 1995. He held management and administrative positions, primarily in the areas of finance and marketing, including 12 years with Caterpillar Overseas in Geneva, Switzerland. He served as Caterpillar Treasurer and Director of Investor Relations during his last 10 years with the company. He served for two years as an officer in the U.S. Army infantry from 1953 to 1955. He graduated from Knox College in 1953 where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and from Northwestern Institute of International Management in 1979. He was an active member of many organizations, including Mt. Hawley Country Club, Cursillo in Christianity, Rotary Club of Peoria, and served as a tutor at Common Place. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors of Counseling and Family Services, Peoria Symphony Foundation, Central Illinois Biomedical Research Group, International School of Geneva, Switzerland and United Federal Bank.
He was a long-time member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Peoria Heights where he served as a lector and eucharistic minister and member of the Parish Council and Finance Committee. Mass and services will be held at St. Thomas Church at 10:30AM on Wednesday, December 30, 2020. Monsignor Jason Gray will preside. Visitation will also be held at St. Thomas Church at 9:30AM on Wednesday, December 30. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery on Allen Road immediately following the funeral mass. The family requests that those who wish to pay their respects, but are uncomfortable attending in-person during these times, park along the Resurrection Cemetery drive leading to the mausoleum at 11:30AM, and remain in their cars, thereby forming an honorary cordon.
