Obituary for Laura Gene Jones Hollowell

WASHINGTON – Laura Gene “Genie” Jones Hollowell, 88, of Washington, formerly of Peoria and Hesperia, MI, passed away at 10:50 p.m. on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Washington Christian Village.
She was born on July 26, 1924 in Fremont, MI to Harry L. and Jeannie (Daily) Spooner. She first married Finney Jones. He passed away on January 28, 1971 in Peoria. She later married Max Hollowell. He preceded her in death.
Also preceding her in death were one daughter, Victoria McFarden; one son, George Jones; one sister; and three brothers.
Genie is survived by two sons, Robert (Lori) Jones of Peoria and John (Patty McCartney) Jones of Bayview Gardens; a special son-in-law, Gary McFarden of Peoria; a step-daughter, Judy Hollowell of Grand Haven, MI; seven grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
She was a secretary for District 150 for many years. She later worked for several loan companies in the Peoria area.
Genie was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was also a member of Rebekah Masonic, Good Sam’s, and Red Hat Society. She was also very involved in genealogy in Peoria County and Newaygo County in Michigan.
She loved quilting, crocheting, and all types of arts and crafts. She also loved history, reading, and traveling.
Genie was lovingly known as “The Great One” by her great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at Wright Salmon Mortuary. Pastor Vonna Lou Larson will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Wright Salmon Mortuary. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery.
