Obituary for LaVerne R. Marks

WEST PEORIA-LaVerne R. Shoemaker Marks, 87, of Peoria, passed away at 10:55 a.m. on Friday, January 8, 2010, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria. She was born on November 18, 1922, in Peoria, to Leslie W. and Mae S. Tribbey Shoemaker. She married Leonard J. Crandell in May of 1943. He was killed in action in Germany in 1945. She then married William J. Marks on June 21, 1947, in Peoria. He passed away on December 3, 2004, in Peoria. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Betty J. Gard and one brother, Paul L. Armstrong. LaVerne is survived by three daughters, Jan (Mike) Powers, Judy (Jim) Hayden and Cathy (Bryon) Mahrt all of West Peoria; and one son, William J. Jr. (Retta) Marks of West Peoria; eight grandchildren, Paige Nauth, Amy Powers, Stephanie Hlinak, Abby Mahrt, Stephanie Mahrt, Dan Hayden, Ryan Hayden and Angela Caputo; and eight great-grandchildren. LaVerne was a homemaker who loved spending time with her family and friends, and she will always be remembered by them for her love of nature, animals and her generous spirit towards everyone. She enjoyed many hobbies and interests throughout her life including crafts, ceramics, painting and antiques. She was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Peoria, where a Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January12, 2010, with Rev. Charles Klamut officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the Mass at the church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum in Peoria. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to West Peoria Fire Department or Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Tributes and condolences may be submitted to www.wrightandsalmon.com
