Obituary for Kenneth John Heuermann

Kenneth John Heuermann 78, of Bartonville passed away at 12:00 P.M. on December 17, 2009 at his home. His family was at his side as he left us with a smile on his face. He was born on August 30, 1931 in Peoria to Jacob John and Catherine Margaret Fischer Heuermann. Kenny married Geraldine Jean Spainhower on February 27, 1954 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Peoria. He graduated from Manual Training School in 1949. He was a Korean War Veteran. After 41 years, he retired from Caterpillar, Inc. as a senior design engineer. Charter memberships include Peoria Sportsman Club, Knights of Columbus St. Jude Council #4333 where he volunteered 3,000 hours in 8 years, a record at that time. Other past memberships include Hanna City Sportsman Club and the N.R.A. He was the founding Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop #241 at the Peoria State Hospital and remained the leader for 6 years. His Family was his richest possession. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle and fishing partner. Kenny will be remembered for his love of fishing, camping and spending time with family and friends at the cabin on the Mississippi River in Carman. He received an Illinois State record for catching the biggest flathead catfish in 1969. Kenny loved his family dearly. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Gerry, their eight children; four sons, Joe (Linda) of Peoria, Kenny (Laurie) of Clinton, IL., Jim (Paula) of Wyoming, IL, and Tim (Beth) of Washington, IL., and four daughters; Mary (John) Venzon of West Peoria, Patty (Harold) Witzig of Carman. IL., Julie (Scott) Leach of Peoria and Janey (Jim) Scott of Mapleton; over 40 grandchildren and great grandchildren. One brother, Art (Dixie) of Dunedin, FL., and one sister Doris Gants of Memphis, TN. Also his beloved brother-in-law Paul (Marilyn) Spainhower of Mission Viejo, CA., and sister-in-laws, Shirley Coyle of Peoria, Mary (Lee) Noel of North Liberty, IA., Nancy (Tom) Maushard of Peoria and Peggy (Vance) Belliston of San Diego, CA., and numerous nieces and nephews. They will all miss his homemade salsa, jelly and applesauce. He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson Alexander Venzon, sister-in-law Pat and (Don) Mahrt, brother-in-laws George Coyle and Bob Gants. His nephews, Dr. Steve Noel and Art Heuermann and niece Karen Gants. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Bartonville, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. Celebrant will be Rev. David Heinz. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 20, 2009 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Bartonville. Further visitation will be 30 minutes before the mass on Monday. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in West Peoria. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church or to the Friends of the Bartonville Volunteer Fire Department.
