Obituary for Kenneth F. McGann

PEORIA – Kenneth F. McGann, age 95, of Peoria, IL passed away peacefully on Monday, January 24, 2022 at Buehler Home.
Ken’s life was exemplified by his love of God, Family and Community.
Ken was born on November 5, 1926 to George F. McGann & Marie L. (Ulrich) McGann. He was a graduate of Spalding Institute (1943 – Valedictorian) and the University of Illinois (1949) where he was the top engineering student of his class and was awarded the Bronze Plaque. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy (1945 – 1946).
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, his wives and one granddaughter.
He was happily married for 48 years to Joan (Nichols) McGann until her death in 1998. He is survived by: brother Jim (Mary) McGann of West Hartford, CT; brother Dave (Barbara) McGann of Spokane, WA; son Marty (Maureen) McGann of Peoria, IL; daughter Linda Bartak of Peoria, IL; daughter Sue (Gede) Kalinauskas of Roswell, GA; son Steve McGann of Indialantic, FL; 11 Grandchildren and 12 Great-Grandchildren.
Ken was married to Shirley Ringness from 2001 until her death in 2009. He became Stepfather to: stepson John (Linda) Ringness of Mount Pleasant, SC; stepson Tom Ringness of Clearwater, FL; stepson Andy Ringness of Oneida, TN; 9 Step Grandchildren and 10 Step Great-Grandchildren.
He worked for Caterpillar Tractor Co. for 33 years, retiring as Engineering Department Manager of Facilities Design & Construction.
Ken was extremely generous in giving of his time and talents, volunteering and chairing various organizations and committees throughout his life. Among those: Site Selection Chairman for the ICC Steering Committee; Board Member of the Greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame, South side Office of Concern, St. Augustine Manor Retirement Home, Spalding/Academy of Our Lady High School Association; 75-year member of The Knights of Columbus (3rd degree, 4th degree and International Order of Alhambra); supporter of Diocese of Peoria Seminarians group; St. Brendan’s Division – Irish Cultural Society and St. Patrick’s Society of Peoria.
St. Philomena Parish held a very special place in his life for the past 66 years. He served in many capacities throughout the years but was especially proud of being Past-President of the Parish Council and Eucharistic Minister.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Buehler Home for their loving care.
His legacy lives on through these virtues instilled in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation will take place Thursday, January 27, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at St. Philomena Catholic Church and Friday, January 28, 2022 from 10:30 AM until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Philomena Catholic Church. Father David Richardson will officiate and entombment will follow at Resurrection Mausoleum in Peoria, IL.
In lieu of flowers memorials in Ken’s memory may be made to St. Philomena Church, 1000 Albany Ave., Peoria, IL 61604; or St. Augustine Manor, 1301 NE Glendale Ave., Peoria, IL 61603
