Obituary for Kenneth Arnold Weeks

BRIMFIELD – Kenneth Arnold Weeks, 85, of Brimfield passed away at 1:44 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home. Kenneth was born on Jan. 3, 1930, in Bureau, Ill., to the late Robert and Wilma (Wolfe) Weeks. He married Sally Mahieu on July 4, 1998 in Wilmington, N.C. She survives. He is also survived by two children, Joan (Jeff) Bastian of Peoria and Kenneth “Chip” Weeks of Dunlap; three step-children, Thomas Mahieu of Santa Barbara, Calif., Stephen (Mary) Mahieu of Chicago, and Julie Mahieu of Seattle, Wash.; four grandchildren, Nicole (John) Rook, AJ (Kelsey) Bastian, and Kyle and Jared Weeks. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Kenneth was a 1948 graduate of Hall High School. He attended Bradley University, graduating with his bachelor’s and master’s degrees, where he was a four-year letterman in football and track and held the shot-put record for many years. He was later inducted into the Bradley Athletic Hall of Fame. He treasured duck hunting with his father and followed in his footsteps of waterfowl carving in the tradition of Illinois River Valley carvers. Kenneth will be remembered for always taking the time to write letters acknowledging people for their hard work. A funeral Mass will be at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015, at St. Thomas Catholic Church. Father Thomas Henseler will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:30 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015, at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. An additional visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Cremation rites will be accorded following the Mass. A private family burial will take place in Bureau Cemetery in Bureau, Ill., at a later date.
