Obituary for Kathryn J. Simpson
Peoria- Kathryn Lucia Jacquin Simpson, age 92, passed away at 4:13 PM, Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Manor Court in Peoria, IL.
Born June 22, 1924 in Peoria, IL., daughter of Wentworth C. and Kathryn M. (Niehaus) Jacquin. She married Howard M. Simpson November 25, 1948 in Peoria, he survives. Also surviving are five children; John N. (Jayne) Simpson of Romeoville, IL., Cory S. (William) Christian of Baraboo, WI., Michael H. Simpson of Reedsburg, WI., David M. Simpson and Dana S. Lyddon, both of Peoria, IL., and ten grandchildren; Lisa Marie (William) Patterson, Ryan (Tess) Simpson, Kathleen (Timothy) Madigan, Ashley (James) Cahill, Mark (Nicole) Christian, Emily (Tony) España, Rebecca (Darrin) Sass, Luke Simpson, Blair Simpson, and Patrick Lyddon, two step-grandchildren; Dawn (Ryan) Marshall and Michelle (Thomas) Loftus, eleven great-grandchildren; Sean and Sophia Madigan, Blake, June, and Clara Patterson, Jack and Cole Simpson, Alex and Nicolas España, Brooke and Madelyn Sass, five step-great-grandchildren; Spencer, Brooke and Brittany Marshall, Tommy and Ellie Kate Loftus; five nieces and one nephew.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, one son, James P. Simpson, one sister, Patricia J. Moylan, and one brother, W.C. Jacquin, Jr.
Kathryn graduated from Peoria High School and Bradley University with Bachelor’s Degree, Cum Laude, with a Major in Fine Arts. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity, Theta Alpha Phi Honorary Fraternity and National Dramatics Fraternity and the Federation of Bradley Scholars.
Kathryn was a Lakeview Museum Charter Member, member of the Mothers’ League of Peoria and on the Heart of Illinois United Way Board of Directors. She was on the Board of Directors, a treasurer and on the Executive Committee for the YWCA. She was on the Board of Directors, the Finance Committee and the Chairman of the Sterling Merit Awards for the Junior League of Peoria. She was instrumental in founding the Crystal Lake and Watershed Association in Benzie County, Michigan, where she was on the Board of Directors, served as treasurer and was on the membership committee. She was active at the Crow Canyon Archeological Center in Cortez, Colorado and the Congregational Summer Assembly in Frankfort, Michigan. She was a 57- year member of the Boy Scouts of America, as well as member of the National Council and Central Region Finance Committee. She was a cadet troop leader and Mariner Scout Advisor for the Girl Scouts of America. Kathryn was recognized in “Who’s Who of American Women” and “Community Unity Leaders and Noteworthy Americans.” She received the Silver Beaver Award and the Silver Fawn Award from the Boy Scouts of America and was a YWCA Volunteer of the Year.
She worked at Jacquin and Co. and later for Bennett Publishing Co. Kathryn was an active member of St. Philomena Catholic Church where she served on the Parish Council and Finance Committee.
Kathryn was happiest taking care of her family, being a caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be truly missed.
Visitation will be 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM Monday, April 10, 2017 at Wright & Salmon Mortuary, 2416 N. North St. Peoria, IL., 61604. Funeral Mass will be at 9:30 AM, Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Resurrection Mausoleum Chapel with a half hour visitation prior, also at the chapel, 7519 N. Allen Rd., Peoria, IL., 61614. Father David Richardson will officiate. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Philomena Catholic Church, Bradley University or the Boy Scouts of America.
