Obituary for Kathleen Theresa Harney

Peoria- Kathleen Theresa (Waugh) Harney, age 91, passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord, Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa, AZ., surrounded by her loving family.

A lifetime resident of Peoria, she was born December 25, 1926 in Peoria, a daughter of William George and Josephine (Maloney) Waugh, Sr. She married John Philip Harney on January 26, 1952 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Peoria. He survives.

Kathleen is also survived by their eight children; Colleen Harney, and John P. Harney, Jr., both of Tempe, AZ., Mary Beth Gregory, Brian (Becky) Harney and Robert (Julie) Harney all of Chandler, AZ., Maureen Harney of Chicago, IL., Kathy (Dave) Rennolds of Grayslake, IL., and Patty Harney of Peoria, one sister, Elizabeth Lehnhausen of Peoria, one brother, Reverend John Waugh of Wedron, IL., and one sister-in-law, Freddie Waugh of Peoria. She also leaves behind 10 beautiful grandchildren who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Mary Jo Konvalinka and three brothers; William J. Waugh, Jr., David J. Waugh, and Joseph A. Waugh, Sr.

A graduate of St. Cecilia Grade School and the Academy of Our Lady High School in Peoria, she attended Marycrest College in Davenport, IA. Following college, she worked at Hiram Walker in Peoria. A loving wife, mother and sister, Kathleen’s devotion to her faith, family and friends was evident throughout her entire life. Our hearts are broken, but her examples of love, dedication to others, and devotion to God will remain with us forever.

Kathleen was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church for over 50 years, St. Vincent de Paul Women’s Guild, Catholic Women’s League and the Peoria Women’s Club. She was also a member of the Sigma Delta Sorority, a charter member of Willow Knolls Country Club, a member of the Creve Coeur Club and the St. Patrick’s Society of Peoria.

Funeral Mass will be 11:30 AM Friday, April 27, 2018 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM at the church. Fr. James Pallardy and Reverend John Waugh, her brother, will con-celebrate the Mass.

Graveside Services will be commenced at 4:30 PM at St. John Cemetery in Bradford, IL.
