Obituary for Kathleen Evelyn Russell

PEORIA-Kathleen Evelyn Myers Russell, 86 of the Bickford House in Peoria, passed away at 7:46 a.m. on Sunday, April 15, 2007 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center ER. Born June 26, 1920 in Harristown, IL to Joseph Leroy and Marietta Spitzer Myers. She married Richard Laverne Russell on November 20, 1944 in Wheaton, IL. He passed away in 1976. Surviving are two brothers, Ray Myers of Plainfield, IL, Roy (Audrey) Myers of Aurora, IL; two sisters, Eileen McMillan of Pekin and Jean Myers of Peoria; her aunt Albertine James of Battlecreek, MI along with her children, Georgia Lange of Lombard, IL, Jan (Joe) Medvesky of Brimfield, Jeanne (Tony) King of Peoria, Ric (Pat) Russell of Downers Grove, Barb (Rex) Primm of Metamora, IL, Bill (Janis) Russell of Peoria and Mark Russell of Peoria. Known as “Grandma Kay” also is survived by 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Tommy, one grandson, Seth and one great-granddaughter, Karlie. She attended Illinois State Normal University for a teaching degree and taught grades one through eight in a one room school house. Kay worked at Caterpillar, Inc. She then did child care in her home for more than 15 years. She absolutely loved children and they loved her. Grandma Kay loved to make cookies for her grandchildren. Grandma Kay’s cookies were the best! Kay’s love for her family was immeasurable. Her greatest joys were her children and grandchildren. Kay always had a smile on her face and kind words for everyone she met. Her presence was a true example of Love. Kay was involved in the Peoria Senior Summer Band and traveled to many countries escorting her children. She was very active in square dancing in and around the Peoria area. She was a member and dancer of the “Riverview Ramblers” line dancing team. In 2005, they won the bronze medal at the Heart of Illinois Senior Olympics Fine Arts Festival. She was a member of First Church of Christian Science in Peoria. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at Wright & Salmon Mortuary with Pastor Stephen Barch officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or Charity of the Donor’s Choice.
