Obituary for Judith M. Brandow Guerrero
Lacon- Judith Mary (Brandow) Guerrero, 76, of Lacon, formerly of Peoria, passed away 10:25 AM on January 9, 2017.
She was born on June 27, 1940 in Peoria, the daughter of Robert and Elizabeth (Evans) Brandow. Judy dedicated her life to loving her family and helping others. She spent her early adulthood working for Hyster Company and Caterpillar, which led her to work and live in Europe. Upon her return to the United States, she studied at Bradley University to become a teacher. During her 30 year career as a teacher, she was affectionately known as Miss Brandow, to thousands of students whom she taught special education in Peoria District 150 and elementary education at Sacre Coeur and St. Thomas Catholic Schools.
A strong woman of faith, she served her beloved Catholic Church as a Catechist and Faith Formation Teacher, Eucharistic Minister, a volunteer of the Pro-Life movement and many other roles. She was known to her family and friends as a Prayer Warrior who believed in the healing power of prayer.
Judy was blessed with finding her husband late in life. She was married to Edmundo “Rey” Guerrero on July 31, 1999 at St. Peter’s Church in Peoria, Illinois. She enjoyed making their home, gardening and growing deeper in her faith for the last 17 years with her loving husband who she is survived by.
Her favorite title was “Aunt.” She loved and adored her 17 nieces and nephews and became known as “Aunt Judy, the Great.” to her 44 great nieces and nephews and 21 great-great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by one sister, Margaret (Jerry) Dalton of Bloomington, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her two older brothers, Gerald and Walter and three nephews.
Funeral Mass will be held 12:00 PM, Friday, January 13, 2017 at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Chillicothe, IL. Visitation will be 10:00 AM to Noon, at the church. Father Keith Walder will officiate. Burial will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Medina Township.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made to St. Edwards Catholic Grade School and Pre-School in Chillicothe.
