Obituary for Judith "Judy" A. Troy

Judith ‘Judy’ A. (Mittal) Troy of Dunlap, IL went to join God and her beloved family and friends in Heaven on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 10:07 pm at OSF Richard Owens Hospice Home.

Judy was born on May 29, 1938 in Peoria, IL to Bill and Carolyn (Harrell) Mittal. She married Jim Troy on January 27, 1962. He survives.

Also surviving are her children, Chris Karpowicz of Dunlap, Beth (Mick) Swanson of Edwards, and Jenni (Rick) Gustafson of Peoria. Judy had 9 grandchildren: Ted, Caroline (Patrick) Masso, Jacob (Erin) and Molly Karpowicz; Katie and Meg Fortner; Jack, Joe, and Grace Gustafson and 1 great grandson Michael Masso. She is survived by one sister, Jeanne (Bill) Troy and one brother James (Jeanne Murphy) Mittal. She has many nieces and nephews: Susie (Jim) Smith, Amy (Alex) Kott, Laurie (Doug) Bowers, Daniel (Danielle) Troy; Jamie (Mike) Baltrotsky, Matt (Emily) Mittal, Brett and Ben Mittal. She was preceded in death by one niece, Kathy Troy.

She was a dedicated wife, mom, and sister. She attended St. Bernard’s Grade School and Academy of Our Lady/Spalding Institute. She had a great group of friends, the ‘DINKS’ that she enjoyed and continued to have friendships with to this day. She and her sister, Jeanne, married the Troy Boys and together they raised their families, celebrating holidays, sacraments, graduations, and weddings! Judy worked at Peoria School Dist #150 as a Secretary at Webster and a Librarian at Louck’s.

Judy will be remembered most for her love of her faith and family. Judy and Jim faithfully practiced the Catholic faith. They were regular attendees at morning Mass. She had been a member of St. Bernard’s, St. Philomena’s and was a current member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. When asked what her biggest accomplishment is she stated ‘my family’. She attended the numerous games Jim coached at Peoria High. She loved ‘her girls’ and was always their biggest fan and cheerleader. Her words of advice to her children and grandchildren were to be ‘honest, be wise, go to church and be thoughtful of others.
