Obituary for Joseph Oscar Gutierrez

JOLIET – Joseph Oscar Gutierrez, 85, of Joliet, formerly of Peoria, passed away at 2:12 p.m. Monday, November 25, 2013, at his residence. Joseph was born on December 27, 1927, in Roselle, IL, to Luis and Carmen (Menchaca) Gutierrez. He married Barbara Ann Mulvaney on May 10, 1952, in Peoria. She preceded him in death on April 29, 1992. He was also preceded in death by three sons, Michael, Daniel, and Joseph; one grandson, Joey; two siblings, Manual and Louisa; and two son-in-laws, Clarence Gumm and David Parks. He is survived by four children, Vicky (Mayolo) Aguirre of Joliet, Robert (Dana) Gutierrez of Marshalltown, IA; Susan Parks of Joliet; and Carmen (Kerry) Ross of Calera, OK; seventeen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary, Leona, and Felipa; and one brother, Ramiro. Joseph graduated from St. Mary’s School, and attended Spalding Institute. He was the owner and operator of the Jigsaw Tavern and Mulvaney’s Bar. He was a former member of the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Peoria. He was also a long-standing member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Jude Council #4333, and was an avid Cub fan since 1934. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, November 30, 2013, at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Peoria. Msgr. Stanley Deptula will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Friday, November 29, 2013, at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. An additional visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery in West Peoria. Memorials may be made to the Gutierrez family or the Joliet Area Community Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, IL, 60431.
