Obituary for Joseph Kohl

PEORIA – Joseph S. Kohl, 95, of Peoria, passed away at 8:06 p.m., Sunday, April 28, 2013, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. Joseph was born on November 15, 1917, in Equality, IL, to Peter U. and Anna Barbara (Unfried) Kohl. He is survived by one daughter, Carol (Daniel) Bohan of Peoria; seven grandchildren, Melanie (Jim) Owens, Steve Bohan, Chris (Cassie) Bohan, Joshua Bohan, Kevin Bohan, Lisa Long, and Sarah Bohan; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Clara Hall and Eulalia Murray. He was preceded in death by one son, Steve; one brother; and four sisters. Joseph was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Air Force. He first owned an autobody repair shop, and then was an insurance agent for the Farm Bureau. He later worked for in parts distribution for Caterpillar for 20 years. Joseph was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Spalding Council #427, Third Degree, the VFW, and the American Legion. His retirement years were filled with getting his grandchildren to their activities. They were the love of his life. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at St. Bernard Catholic Church. Msgr. Stanley Deptula will officiate. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Wright & Salmon Mortuary with recitation of the Rosary at 7:45 p.m. An additional visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Peoria. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate or St. Bernard Catholic Church.
