Obituary for Joseph A. Giltner

Peoria- Joseph A. Giltner, age 73, of Peoria, passed away at 10:28 AM on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at his residence.

Born January 30, 1944 in Peoria, he was a son to Horace and Winifred (Maupin) Giltner. He served honorably in the United States Air Force as a Military Policeman and afterwards Joe worked on air at WMBD radio. He worked as a salesman for McKesson until his retirement. Then he went on to drive for Peoria Charter Coach Company. He was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church serving as an extra-ordinary minister. Joe was involved in the St. Vincent de Paul Society and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St Jude Council #4333. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and volunteering in service to others. Joe also enjoyed golfing, going to the Indy 500, and he never missed an opportunity to visit the beautiful islands of Hawaii. He was a loving father, grandfather, and brother who was loved dearly and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include three children: Lori Forbear of Lockport, IL, Darin (Alison) Giltner of Bisbee, AZ, and Amanda Giltner of Peoria; four grandchildren: Kyla Giltner, Michael & Lucas Forbear, and Trevor Giltner; four sisters: Sr. Andrea Giltner, OSB of Rock Island, Virginia “Ginny” Schlicksup of Peoria, Margaret “Peggy” Giltner of Peoria and Judy Davenport of Peoria; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Imelda “Mel” Kelch.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 20, 2017 between the hours of 5:00 PM till 7:30 PM at Wright & Salmon Mortuary with a recitation of the rosary at 7:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at 11:30 AM at St. Thomas Catholic Church with an additional visitation 30 minutes prior to mass. Father Paul Stark will officiate and burial with military honors will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.

Memorials in Joe’s memory may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, Franciscan Sisters of St. John the Baptist, or St. Thomas Catholic Church.
