Obituary for John J. Doolan, Jr.
John J. Doolan, Jr, age 76, passed away on Sunday, May 30, 2021 in Bloomington, IL.
John was born on July 29, 1944 in Peoria, a son of John J. and Mary (Pocius) Doolan, Sr. He married Marilyn S. Bourscheidt on October 31, 1964 in Peoria. She survives. Also surviving are their two daughters, Susan (Dan) Spapperi of Bloomingdale, IL and Kelly Doolan of Palm Harbor, FL, three grandchildren, Gabrielle, Allison, and Lauren, two brothers, Dennis (Beth) Doolan of Washington, IL and Tim (Marci) Doolan, Ogden, UT, one sister, Joanne (Randy) Gabbert of Washington, IL, as well as several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
John worked as a sales representative for Newman and Ullman Inc. for many years. He went on to own and operate Wisconsin Tap and The Tip Top Inn in Peoria, IL.
He was an avid Cardinals fan. He officiated all sports, including baseball, basketball and football. He played softball, played in the Sunday Morning League and played for the Bloomington Hearts Softball League for many years. He was inducted into the Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame and this coming summer will be inducted into the Canton Junior College Baseball Hall of Fame.
John loved spending time with his three granddaughters. He enjoyed watching and mentoring them in their sports activities.
Visitation will be from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 4, 2021 at the mortuary, with a half hour prior visitation. Reverend Stephen Barch will officiate and burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in West Peoria, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sophia’s Kitchen or American Heart Association.
