Obituary for John E. "Jack" Welsh

John E. “Jack” Welsh, 89, of Peoria, passed away at 9:03 PM, Sunday, December 23, 2012 at Manor Court. He was born November 5, 1923 in Brimfield, IL a son of John E. and Florence L. (Renne) Welsh. He married Rita D. Hovorka on June 12, 1948 in Peoria. She passed away on September 29, 1992. He then married Eloise A. (Savage) May on April 9, 1994 in Peoria and she survives. Others surviving are his children, John (Roylyn) Welsh of Redding, CA, Mary Kay “Mimi” Huber of Bartonville, James (Deborah) Welsh of Houston, TX, and Tina (Jerry) Broyles of Bartonville; eight grandchildren, Matt, Sarah, Emily, Michelle, Leslie, Heather, John, Michael; and five great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by a sister, an infant son, and a grandson, Christopher Flynn. Jack graduated from Purdue University with a BS in Chemical Engineering. He was with Caterpillar for 35 years, retiring in 1985 as a corporate energy manager. He was a Navy veteran of WW 2. He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church; K of C, Spalding Council, #427, 3rd Degree; K of C, Spalding Assembly, #206, 4th Degree; American Legion Limestone Post 979, Bartonville. Jack left a lasting impression on everyone he met with his humor, humility, and integrity. He appreciated the commitment of his caregivers during his convalescence. A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 AM, Thursday, December 27, 2012 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Peoria Heights with Msgr. William Watson officiating. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 10:30 AM at the church prior to the Mass. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or to the donor’s choice. Tributes and condolences may be submitted to
