Obituary for John Carlson
PEORIA ~ John F. Carlson, 71, of Peoria, passed away at 9:07 p.m. Thursday, September 8, 2022 at his residence.
John was born April 26, 1951 in Peoria to Francis C. and Frances (Doolan) Carlson.
Surviving are one daughter, Mary (Travis) Loux of St. Louis, Missouri; one son, Michael (Abby) Carlson of Normal; and five grandchildren, Ruby, Lucy, Frances, Vincent and Annie. He also leaves his cousins, Vivian, Jim, Charlotte, Kelley, Peggy and Wayne. Also surviving is his former wife, Kathy Van Etten.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Joe Carlson.
John had worked as a Director of Administration at Peoria County Health Department,
Personal Director for Peoria County and as the City Administrator for West Peoria.
John was always the life of the party. He was a magnetic force within his family. He adored his five grandchildren who lovingly called him Poppy. He had a deep spirituality that held him up all the way till the end.
His funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 15, 2022 at St. Philomena Catholic Church. Father David Richardson will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. Additional visitation will be thirty minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
