Obituary for John C. Schlicksup
John (Jack) C. Schlicksup, age 76, passed away peacefully at his home in Peoria, Illinois on the evening of Sunday, August 14, 2022.
Jack was born on June 3, 1946, in Peoria, to Patricia M. Schlicksup Nailon and Dr. Edward J. Schlicksup. He graduated from Spalding High School in 1964. After high school, he attended Saint Bede Abbey for one year before completing his undergraduate degree at Loras College in 1969. Following graduation, he was drafted into the Army and served his time at Fort Hood in Killeen, TX, before he was honorably discharged in 1971. After his service to his country, he continued his education while starting a family, graduating with a Master of Arts in Counseling in 1979.
He spent several years living in Fairhope, Alabama, before moving back to Peoria where he worked as a licensed clinical professional counselor for over 40 years. Jack’s children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He frequently traveled to their homes to celebrate milestones and entertained the grandchildren with his singing and guitar strumming. They all shared many laughs over “Pop’s” silly songs. After retirement, Jack spent many hours on the road traveling to visit friends and family all over the country. He enjoyed woodworking, reading, movies, pickleball, and singing songs around a campfire. Jack was an active member of the Universalist Unitarian Church of Peoria, where he enjoyed fellowship and service in his community.
Jack is survived by his 4 children, Daniel (Kim) Schlicksup of Gurnee, IL, Emily (Brian) Schoemehl of Webster Groves, MO, Edward (Brandy) Schlicksup of Oak Park, IL, and Anthony (Gina) Schlicksup, of St Johns, FL; 12 grandchildren, Abbey (Stephen) Carey, Annie and Teddy Schlicksup, Maggie, Brendan, Lucy, and Henry Schoemehl, Anton Schlicksup, and Noah, Josie, Will, and Maya Schlicksup; and 8 siblings, Edward (Cindy) Schlicksup, Jr. of Charlotte, NC, Peter (Judy) Schlicksup of Davenport, IA, Margaret (Tom) Schueppert of Sturgeon Bay, WI, Richard (Vicki) Schlicksup of Peoria, Robert (Cinzia) Schlicksup of Golden Valley, MN, David (Terri) of East Peoria, Patrick (Chris) Schlicksup of Hebron, KY, and Marti (Kevin) Schlicksup-Sills of Dunlap; a step-brother, Larry (Christine) Nailon of Peoria and step-sister, Elizabeth Nailon of Atlanta, GA. Jack was also a beloved uncle and great-uncle to dozens of nieces and nephews of the extended Schlicksup family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will be followed by the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 20, 2022, at Wright and Salmon Mortuary in Peoria. A private burial will be held at a later time. A luncheon will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Tourette Association (tourette.org).
