Obituary for Joan T. Manning
Joan T. Manning, 87, of Peoria, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2022 at UnityPoint Health – Methodist Hospital.
Joan was born September 30, 1934 in Chicago, IL, daughter of Joseph L. and C. Veronica (0’Donnell) Brezina. She married William A, Manning on September 3, 1955 at St. Mel Catholic Church in Chicago. He preceded her in death on December 19, 2006.
Joan is survived by her children, Maria (Kingford) Bavender of Chaska, MN, Catherine Manning (Andrew Amer) of New York, NY, Stephen Manning (Margaret) of Montclair, NJ, and Carolyn Casella (Michael) of Downers Grove, IL; nine grandchildren, Grace Haser, Perri Haser, Kyle Bavender (Kelsey), Katherine Manning, Claire Manning, Sean Manning, Jacob Casella, Griffin Casella, Kelsey Casella; four step grandchildren, Lindz Aver (Hilary), Rose Amer, Kira Bavender (Fabian Frei), Kali Bavender; and one step great-grandchild, Phoebe Frei.
Joan graduated from Providence High School, Chicago, IL and Bradley University. She was teacher at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic School for 18 years and a member of St. Philomena Catholic Church for over 60 years She was very active and served as an officer of the Catholic Women’s League and the American Association of University Women (AAUW). Joan was also a reading tutor for ROE Adult Literacy, providing education to adults in need of basic reading skills and a volunteer for the Order of St. Francis (OSF) Bereavement Support Group. Joan enjoyed bridge clubs, bowling leagues and spending time with her many friends.
Joan loved her faith, family and friends deeply. As a teacher, she served as a role model to both her students and family, instilling knowledge and important life lessons that continue as her legacy.
Visitation for Joan will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 11, 2022 at St. Philomena Catholic Church followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in West Peoria, IL.
