Obituary for Joan M. Threw

PEORIA - Joan M. Threw, 84, of Peoria died peacefully on Feb. 8, 2015, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. Joan was born on Nov. 26, 1930, in Pekin to the late Arthur and Vivian (Keena) Dittmer. She married Glenn A. Threw. He preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Timothy (Claudia) Threw of Yates City; granddaughter, Alexandra (Danai) Threw-Kittivathana of Yates City; sister, Carol (Phil) Passer of Tamarac, Fla.; niece, Alison Passer of Washington D.C.; cousin, Sharon Warner of Brookings, Ore.; and close friends the Higgins family. Joan was an active member of the Girl Scouts growing up and was selected to be the Illinois delegate at the 1947 International Summer Congress in Washington, D.C. She was a proud graduate of Peoria High, where she served as a class officer. She earned her bachelor and master degrees from Bradley University. Joan served as principal of St. Mary's of Kickapoo for a number of years and then went on to manage the day care facilities for Catholic Social Services in Peoria. She had a passion for travel and vacationed throughout the world with family and friends. A memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2015, at Resurrection Mausoleum Chapel. Franciscan Friars will officiate. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the Mass at the chapel. Cremation rites have been accorded. Entombment of ashes will be in the mausoleum. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners’ Hospital for Children. Tributes and condolences may be submitted to
