Obituary for Joan Joy Barth
Joan Joy Barth, 85, of Peoria, loving wife and mother, passed away at 9:05 p.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Unity Point Hospice.
“Joy”-a befitting name for a lady who used her hands and her heart to make the world a better place. Born on July 18, 1931 in Peoria to Chester and Verna (Delicath) Noye, she married Robert (Bob) Barth on February 3, 1951. The couple made a home, embraced a wide circle of friends, and started a family.
Joan helped Bob with the family grocery business and would greet him in the evening with a made-from-scratch, melt in your mouth dinner that would often send him to the couch in a dreamy fog. A devoted mother, she was always there for her children, to guide and protect, to console and encourage, loving unconditionally. Gardening was her passion. Her love affair with roses often resulted in a sore back and heated words with rabbits, but she soldiered on. Her yard was a treasure.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her parents, and brother Jack. She leaves behind two sons, Bob (Katie) Barth, Jack Barth, daughter Linda (Bill) Gilbert, 5 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Joan’s family wishes to thank Unity Point Hospice and Illinois Cancer Care for their encouragement and support.
A celebration of Joan’s life will take place from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday, November 6, 2016 at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. Recitation of the rosary will begin held at 5:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, November 7, 2016 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to Mass. Father Thomas Taylor will officiate. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum.
Memorials may be made to St. Vincent de Paul, The Alzheimer’s Association, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
