Obituary for Joan A. Bowman

PEORIA-Joan A. Bowman, 86, of Peoria, passed away at 7:26 a.m. on Friday, January 21, 2011, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. She was born on January 18, 1925, in Peoria, to John and Lula Claudin O’Brien. She married James L. Bowman on July 2, 1955, in Peoria. He passed away on April 15, 2004, in Quincy, IL. She was also preceded in death by her twin sister, Jean Ball and one brother, John J. O’Brien. Joan is survived by one daughter, Mary Lu Bowman of Peoria; one son, James A. Bowman of Peoria; three nieces, Peggy Lucas, Melanie Ball and Sue Clancy; and two nephews, Michael and Patrick Ball. She was a 1943 graduate of the Academy of Our Lady. Joan was a former secretary at Peoria Cartage Co. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and Daughters of Isabella. She was a singer along with her twin sister, Jean in the Les Gerber Band in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 24, 2011, at Holy Family Church with Franciscan Friars officiating. There will be no visitation. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial of ashes will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in West Peoria. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association.
